In 1565, the Ottoman Empire launched a massive attack on Malta, aiming to take control of the island and expand further into Europe.

But they didn’t expect the resistance they faced.

The Knights of St. John, alongside the Maltese people, fought back with everything they had and against all odds, they won.

That victory didn’t just save Malta… it changed its future forever.

Why Valletta Was Built

After the siege, one thing became clear:
Malta needed a city that could never be taken so easily again.

So the Knights made a bold decision they would build a completely new fortified city from scratch.

That city became Valletta, named after Grand Master Jean Parisot de Valette, which unfortunately he didn't life long enough to see the completion of it.  

And they didn’t build it slowly.

They built it fast. Strategic. Precise.

In just 15 years.

At first glance, Valletta looks elegant golden buildings, straight streets, stunning views.

But behind that beauty is something much more intentional.

Every part of the city was designed with defense in mind:
